This week players are reporting to training camp, and in just over a month we'll get our first regular season game. In between, comes an event that's become almost as big as the start of the season. The release of "Madden NFL 10." (Friday August 14th)
It's become a long running tradition for fans and players alike to argue player and team rankings: Is Michael Turner (95) really better than Ladanian Tomlinson(94)? Is Peyton(99) better than Tom Brady(98)? And how can the Patriots(93) be better than the defending Super Bowl Championship Steelers (92)? (Really how can they be better than the Steelers? Someone wanna answer that for me?)
Besides the faceless fans arguing on message boards we also get fun stories of players like Ethan Albright (Madden's redheaded stepchild 2007) disagreeing with their rating. This year is no exception. Earlier this month T.J. Houshmandzadeh spoke out against his low overall rating and standing within the leagues top wide receivers. Currently T.J. is the 6th highest rated receiver in the NFC and somewhere below 10th in the league. Being the ever outspoken person he is, T.J has addressed the perceived injustices by saying:
I'm not playing Madden no more, until they get my rating right.
And
But until they do me right, I'm not playing it no more.
While Housh makes a case for his rating to be higher by threatening a personal one man boycott, Jets safety Kerry Rhodes is taking a different approach to raising his numbers. Rhodes' biggest point of contention is that his teammate, Jets center, Nick Mangold is rated higher in throwing power and throwing accuracy. (Its a matter of principle I guess) In order to convince EA they did him wrong, Kerry posts a scientific proof on his YouTube channel that his rating should be higher.
Well there we have it. Solid "proof." Get to it EA!
While you're at it, you may want to bump each of those guys sense of humor and coolness points a few.
