THE LAKERS ARE THE CHAMPIONS….AGAIN

THE LAKERS ARE THE CHAMPIONS….AGAIN

Once I found out the Lakers got Ron Artest in the offseason, I was one of those who immediately predicted they would win the NBA championship.  Before the series started, I took the Lakers in six.  But hey, I gotta give myself some credit.  Spot-on with the first prediction, a game off with the second. Anyway, before I go off on a tangent of inflating my ego anymore, let's see what the athletes' said about the game and series.

First, let's start off with Nate Robinson, the reserve point guard who had a big series off the bench:

Sorry bout da game y'all, we let dat game slip away #wordaapp, dis summer should Binteresting, I love dis celtic team gr8 group of guys pause

Robinson is referring to his impending free agent status.  As a Knicks fan, I have a soft spot for Nate, and hope he ends up with the Celtics. I could see him mature throughout the season once he was traded.

Former USC head honcho and new Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was happy to see the Lakers emerge victorious:

Great heart by the lakers! Love how they simply found a way to get it done... Champs x2!

Former NBA player Charles Oakley, one of my favorite Knicks of all-time, gave his insight of Game 7:

Kobe didn't shoot the ball well 2night - so he went to OTHER THINGS. That's what a SUPERSTAR does. OTHER THINGS to still WIN THE GAME.

"Oak" then went on to compare His Airness, Michael Jordan, and Kobe:

I really like Kobe, but there's only one Mike. Different Swagger, Different Games. Both exceptional. No comparison.

Besides, no offense Kobe, but Bow Wow starred in "Like Mike" not "Like Kobe."

Sacramento Kings big man Jason Thompson saw a deeper part of the game than most fans had the privilege of:

I Feel For My Man Sheed. He Stood Outside the Refs Locker Room wantin to talk to them. Then security made him leave, then he left arena with uniform on. #passion for Game

I know 'Sheed caught a lot of flak for underperforming all season, but he really stepped up in the playoffs, especially tonight, starting for the injured Kendrick Perkins.  It's great to hear about guys caring so much.  Props to 'Sheed, and props to Thompson for letting the Twitter-verse hear about it.

(Hmmmm...My editor says, NO PROPS TO WALLACE.  That he's a nut-job and a bad guy. And that he wasn't waiting around to tell the refs how much he appreciated them.  He's no  Armando Galarraga.  In fact, on so many levels, he's the worst of the NBA.  BTW, my editor typed all of that in while I was asleep.)

New York Jets WR Braylon Edwards remembered his roots in Cleveland when he congratulated Shannon Brown on the ring:

Out of everybody I am proud of my boy #ShannonBrown He stuck with it when Cleveland flaked him and now he is a world champ

Oakland Raiders LB Tom Howard asked a question for all of us to ponder:

Who played worst 2nite...Kobe or Ray Allen~~>Ray Allen

Both were uncharacteristically off — though Allen has been off since his magnificent first half in Game 2.  At the end though, Kobe is the one walking away with the ring.  Howard also caught one of the interviews I unfortunately missed:

Did you guys just hear Kobe say this championship mean to him individually that he has 1 more than Shaq. Wow!!!

Jalen Rose in with the "I second that":

#nba Kobe how does this title feel for you personally? "It means that I got one more than Shaq..I don't forget nothing" (POW!)

I definitely see a new commercial with the "I don't forget nothing" tagline.  And, shouldn't it be "PAU" not "POW"?

To sum it all up, we at the Jockosphere just want, in the words of Santonio Holmes, say:

Congratulations to the 2010 LA LAKERS NBA FINALS CHAMPIONS!

Now, not to look too far ahead, but former New York Giant great Michael Strahan had a point when he tweeted:

Now its finally time for FOOTBALL!! September can't get here fast enough.......
