Tonight the Lakers won their second consecutive championship with a great second-half comeback. Ron Artest, who has come up huge the past two games, can finally add a ring to his long and wacky resume. He can also add a(nother) wild post-game interview:
Chris Douglas-Roberts of the league-worst New Jersey Nets commented on Ron Artest's bizarre post-game interview. And by "bizarre," I mean totally normal by Ron Artest's standards:
Ron thanked everybody he ever knew didn't he??? Hahahahahahaaaaaa.
Get ready, because CDR is about to name everybody Ron knows. Literally. And figuratively. The latter was for emphasis.
#RonArtestthanked thanked the dentist who pulled out his wisdom tooth.
#RonArtestthanked thanked the guy who held the elevator for him that one day.
#RonArtestthanked the doctor who helped his Mom give birth.
#RonArtestthanked thanked the whole Wu-Tang clan.
#RonArtestthanked the teacher who taught him his ABC's
Is anyone else getting the sense that "Ron Artest thanked...." is the new "Chuck Norris" joke of the 21st century yet?
#RonArtestthanked the landlord from his crib he grew up in, in Queenbridge.
#RonArtestthanked his Pee Wee basketball coach.
#RonArtestthanked thanked the bootlegger who he bought his first RunDMC tape from.
#RonArtestthanked the guy who threw the cup in Detroit.
He seemed to thank everybody but me. I'm not saying I'm hurt by it, but I guess "perturbed" wouldn't be out-of-line to say the least. CDR's tweets was all in good spirits though, ending with:
Hahahahaha. Ron is my dog though. It's all love. He deserves one. But it seemed like he won a damn Academy Award tonight. Hahaaaa. Respectt
NHL player Joffrey Lupul was also quick to comment on Artest's post-game antics:
OMG Ron Artest, you just thanked ur psychiatrist and pumped ur single in the post-championship interview... Simply stunning
Granted, Lupul was more in shock that all the players on the court had a full set of teeth and no playoff beard.
Free-agent-to-be Rudy Gay found Ron-Ron's interview equally hilarious:
RT @MoneyMase: RT @Electric_Ash: @MoneyMase he thanked his THERAPIST! lol--Hilarious!
Oakland Raiders LB Tom Howard deemed Artest's post-game interview the "greatest quote ever" with this tweet:
RT @FABEWASH31: RT @jeffrohoward: "I want to thank the hood and my psychiatrist" -Ron Artest #greatestquoteever
Golden State Warriors big man Anthony Morrow almost forget to mention Artest's post-game interview amidst the hoopla of the Laker victory:
I kno. I didnt have a chance to tweet about true ron, first of all he was the real MVP tonight, secondly I (cont) http://tl.gd/1uv8ap
True ron thanked his hood #QueensNY LOLhe started talkin about his rap single Doris Burke was like 'ok back to you guys In the studio' LOLOL
If you didn't stick around for the post-game interviews, shame on you. Whenever Ron Artest is involved, the game isn't over until he's off the court. And then sometimes it's still not over. Remember:
Sorry, but I had to. But then, how else can you truly appreciate how far Ron's come. He will go down as one of the game's biggest flakes, but he's a champion now, and not just someone who got there by accident. Two years ago he walked into the Lakers locker room after their Game-6 Finals blow-out loss to the Celtics and kept walking until he found Kobe — inside the shower room — and told Kobe he wanted to come to LA and help him win a title. Those who know him (even the league brass) say he's no dummy, and not really a bad guy, and just about everyone in the game who's not wearing a Celtic uniform is glad he won tonight. And there's not a player in the league that wouldn't want him on their team.
Congrats Ron. I've always been a big fan, and have wanted you to play for my favorite basketball team, the Knicks for years. You definitely earned the ring tonight.
