Ray Allen is known as one of the, if not the best pure shooter in the NBA. He's also known as "Jesus Shuttlesworth," the hoop phenom who was the star of "He Got Game," one of the top-rated basketball movies of all time. And tonight, Allen has so far put on a shooting clinic, as his Boston Celtics have come out on fire against the Lakers in an attempt to even the series.
Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews III
was taken back to his younger days as a kid, with his tweet about Allen's performance:
Feel like I'm watching NBA Jam 4 Nintendo 64 and Ray Allen is ON FIRE!! No answer... just gotta let him cool off.
Personally, I was more of a Hangtime guy myself, but that's neither here nor there.
Chicago Bears WR Earl Bennett made a music, movie and sports reference all wrapped into one- an interesting fusion:
RT @SteveKells: Not even Lil Wayne can make it rain like this. #Jesus
Professional tennis player Amer Delic was right in-line with Clay Matthews:
RT @Illiniballa24: Ray Allen is NBA Jam on FIRE!!! The ball should be lit with a flame when he touch it!! (INSANE!!!)
Rick Fox, former Laker and current actor, seemed at least amused with Allen's lights-out performance:
I was wondering if we were going to get a series Jesus Shuttlesworth is on fire HE GOT GAME time to check the assistant coaches in the game!
New Jacksonville Jaguars LB Kirk Morrison has a theory and appreciation for Ray Allen's hot start:
"Is It The Shoes" -NBA Jam Voice (must be those vintage Jordans he got on @rivers55 RT @rivers55: @kirkmorrison55 is it the shoes?!?!
Jesus Shuttlesworth is putting on a clinic right now
Former guard and current TNT talking head Kenny Smith tweeted his thoughts mid-game:
Going to arena to lock Ray Allen in lockeroom not to break the record!!!
Ray Rice showed why he'll never be a Kenny Smith with his great input on the performance:
Ray Allen Thats all I have to say man if he plays like this the lakers lose #imjustsaying
Thanks for the great analysis. Would I be out-of-line to say Ray Rice just likes Ray Allen because they share the same first name?
Not too often do I have TOO MANY tweets about a topic where there are bunches of tweets I had to leave out. It seemed like everyone and their mother had a comment on Allen's performance, and for good reason. Still, Kevin Durant, the NBA's scoring leader, summed it up best, with his ACTUAL ANALYSIS of the half:
Touuuggghhhh way to end the half..didn't play well and they only down 6...great 2nd half on deck
Despite Ray Allen putting on arguably the greatest first-half shooting performance in finals history (27 points, 9/14 FG, 7/8 3-PT, 2/2 FT's), the Celtics are only up by 6. Definitely going to be an exciting second-half. As Kenny Smith would say, stay tuned for post-game tweets and analysis.
