September 11th: From John Daley, Kevin Durant, Warren Sapp and More… Athletes Say What?

September 11th: From John Daley, Kevin Durant, Warren Sapp and More… Athletes Say What?

I often find myself on both sides of the fence when it come to defending and making fun of athletes.  Overall athletes are just a cross section of our society.  No different than classifying others by their job.  Whether it be teachers, plumbers, firemen, or business owners.  They just get more money and a lot more attention than "everyday folks."  Some say stupid things, some do good with charity, and some do a bit of both.  On this day though it seems that many were on the same page about remember the horrific attacks that happened 8 years ago.

Here is just a few examples that should help us remember that those living in the spotlight are just like us when it comes to remembering 9/11.

Retired NFL running back Jamal Anderson was one of the first to remember the importance of the day

#9-11 respect all the brave Anericans that lost theirl iives, as well their Families; friends, Country. We will never forget!!

Recently released Redskins quarterback Chase Daniel chimed in with

Take some time to remember today. God bless the families who lost their loved ones on this day years ago!

Chamique Holdsclaw, who lost a high school teammate during the attacks, took time to pray for everyone affected

Good morning Tweeps. I just finished praying for everyone who were affected during 911. I lost a H.S teammate Christinia Donavan RIP

Bernard Berrian (who was born in Barcelona - did you know that) also recognizes the importance of the day

Prayers go out to all who was lost or affected by 9/11

Jenny Finch, arguably, the face of the US woman's softball team goes beyond praying

Remembering & Praying for all of the victims and families of 9/11

Some people take a different approach, and like many of us, share their stories about that day.  Saints tight end Billy Miller shares what he remembers (in 140 characters or less)

9/11 the day that changed America. 8 yrs ago today I was about to workout for the packers when the planes hit. So sorry 4 those lost!!!

Kevin Durant makes us all feel old with his memory

Headed to the gym, do u guys remember where u were on 9-11-01..i was in 8th grade, and i culd see the smoke from the pentagon by my house!

American born professional bicyclist Levi Leipheimer also remember, but never shares sadly.

I'll never forget where I was 8 years ago

The well wishes, prayers, condolences, and thoughts continue to roll in throughout the day.  Golfers like John Daly, and Christina Kim send support.  First Christina Kim:

Let us all please honor and remember those we lost on this day

John Daly, send out a simple message with a picture reminding us of simple beauty as he wakes up.

UConn basketball standout Swin Cash wants to remember, but also to be thankful for what we have.

Sept 11..Wow what an emotional day! Let's celebrate life 2day tweeple! Lets live it 2 the fullest&thank GOD 4 the time we have in it! Peace

Perhaps my favorite of the day though comes from ex NFL standout Warren Sapp.  A simple message where he observes the moment of silence through a tweet.  (who woulda thought that day would eventually come)

Good Morning Moment of Silence.................................................................................... one Love!!

There are many messages from athletes  sending prayers, remembering, and trying to put things into perspective.  Here's a full list that we'll manage throughout the day.  (If twitter doesn't keep screwing up!)
