Gut wrenching video

It's no shock that Detroit is in shambles these days.  Its recent accolades include: The U.S. murder capital, the poorest big city in the U.S., metro-area with the most foreclosures, and the home of the Lions.  All titles that no other city in America would want.

Even with its recent run of hard times, the city of Detroit still attracts it fair share of celebrities.  This past weekend Joey Chestnut (the hot dog eating guy) and Pat Bertoletti (some other eating guy) showed up to a pizza shop in Detroit and proceeded to make history. These two I.F.O.C.E. (you know . . . the International Federation Of Competitive Eating) athletes explain it best in their combined blog.

This pizza weighed 12 lbs and would have been easier had my throat and stomach not been worn from the sandwich contest earlier in the day. I wore the glasses to stay incongnito and it seemed to work. I like how you can hear the chach that was talking to us and his pointdexter son throughout.

Oh . . .they guy and his son watching you were the "chach" and "poindexter. "   Good thing you pointed that out Deep Dish. (yes that is truly Pat Bertoletti's nickname) Otherwise I may have assumed the "chach" was the guy in a halfway grown in mohawk wearing yellow sunglasses who dunks his half of the 12 pounds of pizza in pink lemonade.  The man whose "game face" consists of pizza sauce in his scruffy beard and cheeks that look like a chipmunk at a nut buffet.  Whew!  That was a close call.  Thanks for clearing that up.

OK, the father and son may be a bit annoying.  But without their commentary it is just watching two men stuff their faces with 12 pounds of pizza for about 21  minutes.  How exciting would it have been really without commentary gems like:

"You get the sense that there is technical proficiency in their eating technique"

And

"Show us how its done . . Show us how it's done!!"

Just to put it into perspective with some other greats achievements of our countrymen:

"These are the kinds of Americans that won us freedom from England, that abolished slavery in the civil war . . . This is our culture.  . . . . This is no Canadian or Mexican thing.  This is the United States of America."

God Bless the U.S.A!!
