Vontae Davis: Just A Rumor

Vontae Davis: Just A Rumor

Yesterday, Vontae Davis used his blog in order to dispel an inaccurate rumor:

I'm sure you have heard or read the rumor that "I was arrested in Champaign, Illinois on June 9th" but I wanted to let you know that it is not true. The only explanation I have is that my wallet was stolen while I was still in school and someone might be impersonating me.

Vontae continues:

During the time I was "supposedly arrested," I was actually here in Florida at OTA's. I am fully dedicated to my football career and learning the playbook so that I can be effective this season.

As we move into the Era of First-Person Communication, more and more public figures are starting to embrace their personal sites as venues to communicate directly with the public and with their fans. Vontae could have conducted a press conference -- he still may -- but the quickest most efficient way to spread information to a big audience and fast is through the internet. Moreover, it's the best way to control the facts that are being disseminated, to ensure their accuracy.

The sites in the Jockosphere can be a fun way to get to know your favorite athletes, but they can also have the potential to be an effective way for jocks to start managing their own PR.

Apparently, Vontae gets this.
