Dwight Howard: Tasting The Sour Apple

Dwight Howard: Tasting The Sour Apple

We knew it was coming. In his most recent blog entry, the ever-reliable Dwight Howard offers his reflections on the conclusion of the season and Orlando's unfortunate and inevitable end:

I really expected us to win last night and take this series back to L.A. where we'd have a chance to win the championship. Losing the way we did to the Lakers last night was hard because it's difficult to see your dreams fade like that.

It's only natural that Dwight would be feeling the bitter sting of disappointment at a time like this.  However, he's determined to use the upset in order to steel his resolve:

It was hard to do, but I stayed out there and watched the Lakers celebrate. Nobody wants to see another team celebrate on their homecourt, but me and 'Meer stayed out there because we wanted to see it to make us hungrier the next time around.

In Denmark, that's what they call tasting the sour apple.

Still, despite the sour apple, Dwight is by no means sour grapes about the Magic's run for the championship. On the contrary, he's staying relatively positive, given the circumstances.  This much is clear from the title, "We'll be back!!!!!"  (As previously established, there's nothing like multiple exclamation points to drive a point home.)  In the way only Dwight could, despite the crushing defeat, he's still just as prepared as always to throw down the gauntlet.  He writes:

The NBA ain't heard the last of the Magic in the Finals. I know nobody ever expected us to get this far at all this season, but maybe now people will see that we're for real and we're going to be good for several years to come.
