Greg Oden: “That’s What He Did”

In yesterday's entry of his blog, Greg Oden pays tribute to his best friend who was killed in a car accident a couple years back.  He writes:

Today is my friend Travis Smith's birthday. He would be 22 years old today. He would be playing golf, going to school, living in Portland, calling his mom, dad, and sister 3xs today cussing them out. That's what he did....

More than a fried, Travis was a motivating force in Oden's life.

He would let known what was on his mind (usually with cuss words). As a best friend he was always there for me if i needed to be cussed out or just get out and get food, he would make sure i was taken care of me before himself. He did so much stuff for me that i feel bad that i never had the chance to repay him.

Greg uses his blog to keep the memory of Travis alive, and concludes his piece by saying that, while Travis may be gone, his legacy — cuss words and all — lives on in the hearts and minds of the people who loved him, and :

There are a lot of hard days for his family and myself but i want to let them know that he will never be FORGOTTEN and that i love you all just like my family and that you have a son in me.
