In the wake of former teammate Nick Adenhart's death, Torii Hunter is moving on and gaining a little perspective. Most of all, he's focusing on what's important. Namely, his family.
In yesterday's entry of his blog, he writes, "One of the first things I did was call all my family members and tell them I love them. Every time I leave the house, I tell my wife and kids I love them. It's something we all should do every chance we get. Talk to your kids, your brothers and sisters, tell them how you feel. You never know when something like that, what happened to Nick, might happen to you."
When it's all said and done, even if we won't know in advance when our numbers are coming up, Torii reminds us that when the time comes, we won't want to go out with any regrets. Torii goes on to write about Nick's last night, saying, "It must be incredibly hard on his family right now, but at least his dad was able to see him, and Nick was able to tell his dad he loved him."
Finally, Torii makes an appeal to his readers that the drinking and driving "has to stop," referring to the issue as a matter of respect. He writes, "When I called my brothers the next day, I told them I loved them, I also told them to please never drink and drive...No more drinking and driving. Period. We have to be more respectful to each other."
Torii says he is going to keep "carrying on in Nick's spirit and memory. It's the best way we can honor him."
